Swollen Eye

Shiloh (one of my 2 year olds) has had a rough summer. I'm sure because of her itchy allergys she has been rubbing her head on just about everything. I noticed late last night she had one eye that was so swollen and full of pus you could hardly see the eyeball :( I felt the horsey angels were on my side this morning (Saturday) a busy vet day. I called them and my main vet said he could send his dad out this morning . He's in his 80's but knows more about horses then I will ever know. Anyhoo she wouldn't sedate well so we twitched her so he could get a good look at the eye. I couldn't believe he stuck his (latex gloved) finger into her eye socket to check the outer and inner lid, it was pretty interesting. We finally got it flushed out and he thought it looked like she has a small scratch on the cornea. She got her medi and that was that
Wanted to say a good God bless to all vets out there, what would we do without you. Hopefully she will be all better in a few days.

Wow, that's crazy to watch, isn't it? I'm glad it's just a scratch!

I bet that was weird to watch him do. Glad the problem was found and treatment prescribed.

Just thought I would give an update on shy pony (shiloh)...I just came in from checking the mares and feeding barn cats. Shiloh's eye is much better. The eye swelling is almost completly down and she is moving about eating hay. The magic eye powder the vet gave us is working great.. Old Doc Warren is sure a character. Thank god for good vets!

I think anytime we can find a good vet for our animals we are blessed! I have been so lucky for my pups and horse! Yay for great vets! Glad Shiloh is looking/feeling better!

Aawww poor shiloh. Glad she's all good though :) must be annoying and painful for her though. Did the vet give her painkillers or just antibiotics?

Just antibiotic powder Jazzy. Its in this puffer bottle that I just give a poof a day. She is looking so much better and doesnt seem to be in any pain. Doc said to keep her on in for a week so we'll keep puffing her every morning I was so afraid she would loose the eye, so glad she is back to pretty much normal.
