Swollen Knee

Hey guys, yesterday my horse was out in the pasture and someone was shooting a gun and he lost his mind and got entangled in a wire fence. He got a few good cuts on his front legs, so I wrapped them up and they are recovering fine. What I'm worried about is his swollen knee. I saw him hit the fence and there is a wooden post on the end and it looked like he may have ran into it. What I'm asking is what can I do to get the swelling down?

Thanks

Hydro therapy. In order words, cold water from the hose, ideally for 15 mins but that is a waste of fresh water. So cool pack it, but only for 15 mins on & then 15 off.

Yeah I thought about running cold water on it but like you said it is kind of a waste of water, but thanks for the input.

Cool pack (ice of some sort, like a bag of frozen peas or a chemical cook pack) will work. It will take the swelling quite a bit faster than left on it's own.
