    Tendon Injury

My horse is an OTTB. He injured is tendon racing in 2007. What is the best way to prevent this from happening again? I ride him hunter/jumper.

There's nothing you can do at this point. My mare bowed a few months ago. The only thing I can do it keep a very close eye on it. After every ride, I rinse her legs with cold water and feel the leg for heat/swelling. Reinjury is a they-will-or-they-won't.

Of course, ride safely. Never push him too hard or too far. Use sound judgement.

Proper, balanced shoeing. Warm-up before exercise. Wrapping in SMB's. Icing and cool-downs. Don't push the horse hard athletically.
