Are They Really Dapples?

So as the titles suggests, I was wondering if these are actual dapples and not something like fungal scarring. He has recently just put some weight on. They don't look like your average dapples.

No, not fungal scarring or anything - your horse is part leopard! Wow, what stunning markings!

You're not the only one- I've seen a couple threads about this recently!

Strange Giraffe Pattern Appeared on Coat, Help!! (pictures)

There's not a consensus on whether it is or isn't fungal related, so I'd treat with an anti-fungal shampoo just in case.

Is the horse in question grey based?

Mods, grant me the serenity to see the opinions I cannot change, courage to change the ones that should change, and the wisdom to spot the trolls.

If that is fungal scaring I would mind a couple of my horses getting it!! LOL!! Those markings are very nice. It just looks like he is getting lighter or greyer with age and lightening. They look like my TB's marking in the winter. He is a very dark dapple grey and most people think the is an appy.

Looks like dappling. Mu bay mare dapples sometimes and her dapples look just like that, only light brown...

Crazy. I saw pics of a saddlebred mare earlier who had INTENSE giraffe markings. It was amazing. But no clue what they're from
