Thin Mare after Weaning

I bought a mare who had a foal weaned about a month ago. When I bought her (she's a little senior, 17 yrs old), she was a little ribbey with a big sagging gut like she just foaled.

I figured part of it was that she was nursing a foal. If that is the case, how long would it take for her to get a little fat on her? I'm thinking she needs more than her Senior Diet. Like a little extra protein. She should have put a little meat on her ribs by now. She's up to date on worming. Waiting to hear about whether she needs her teeth floated. She did have them done about 9 months ago.

Appreciate any expert advise. Thanks.

Make sure you have a fecal done on her - my mare had the same problem after weaning. She looked awful. Vet recommended a power pack even though her fecal came back negative - she didn't have any adult worms, but he feared she had encysted larvae that were causing her problems. We actually power packed the whole herd, and the change was amazing!

We also added a little extra fat to her regular diet. She looks a LOT better!
