Two New Rescues - new to horses - advice/suggestions sought

Sounds like your doing a great job. As far as a blanket....are your horses shivering. They will visibly shiver if they are cold. Cold damp, wet, or rainy is the worst. The blanket will trick there system into shedding there natural coat which is superior to any blanket, however due to starvation the natural weather protection system of the horse is lacking. You'll have to make a judgement call on that one...however I definitely would not blanket a healthy horse. During a cold spell cracked corn works incredibly well and some sort of shelter. A horse generally will only use a shelter to stay dry in cold weather.
