It also seems they have a new "friend". While out grooming them, I kept hearing another horse off in the distance...apparently someone that lives across the creek from us somewhere has a horse who was knickering and talking up a storm to them. Neither of them answered but they both seemed to take note.

Second doe kidded with a single waiting for the other 2 does to go.
How is Thor and the little one doing??

Sounds like your doing a great job. As far as a blanket....are your horses shivering. They will visibly shiver if they are cold. Cold damp, wet, or rainy is the worst. The blanket will trick there system into shedding there natural coat which is superior to any blanket, however due to starvation the natural weather protection system of the horse is lacking. You'll have to make a judgement call on that one...however I definately would not blanket a healthy horse. During a cold spell cracked corn works incredibly well and some sort of shelter. A horse generally will only use a shelter to stay dry in cold weather.
