Uncontrollable Heat Cycles
I lease a ten year old morgan/quarter horse, arabian mixed mare. She is 14.1hh We just started training her this year. She has never had a foal before.
Sadies is a sweet mare. She listens very well and learns quickly. She is a push button horse in the sence that when you touch her sides with your heal she will trot/canter etc. Sadies has regular head cycles, about every 19 days or so. When she comes into heat she changes completely! In the barn (No males inside the barn at all) on the cross ties, she will swing her rump over to the right. When you brush her, from her shoulder down, she will swing towards you and push you against the wall. She then will squirt. When you push her over she gets more "excited" and squirts more. The more you push the harder she pushes back and the more she enjoys it! As you know, this can be dangerous when you are alone in the barn especially.
When you are riding her its terrible. She is no longer that push button mare. She will purposely stop to get you to sqeeze her with your legs. The harder you squeeze, the more she squirts and enjoys it.
In no way is she nasty when she is in heat. She is just pushy and "lovey."
If she has a foal will this problem get any better? Is there anyway to make her more managable when she is in heat?
Thanks to all who help:)
If your horse says no, you either asked the wrong question of the question wrong!
