I have a 15.2hh 11 year old tb mare, who is lacking condition. No muscle on her shoulders, and no topline. Also under weight! Coukd anyone reccomend any feed/supplement?:-(
My mare looks like that after about 3 months of feed. I just recently started her on Cool Calories as well as the 5qt scoop of Omelene 200 she's been on for 3 months. Mine was also a good 4-600# underweight though, lol.
I've also heard good about Safe Choice..my mare doesn't like the pellets though. The Omelene 200 put weight on her in a decent amount of time though. Posted via Mobile Device
What are you currently feeding her?
My TB does best with alittle bit of alfalfa in his diet..whether that be alfalfa pellets or cubes along with a good probiotic.
Make sure you are not dealing with ulcers, worms, or teeth issues.
We need to know what her current diet is, and what hay is available in your area. I see you're in the U.K. and don't know if any of these feeds are available there, but this is what I have my hard keeper TB on:
3 lbs Nutrena SafeChoice pellets 2x daily
3 qts Standlee beet pulp shreds, soaked, 2x daily
30 lbs of Timothy/Orchard grass hay per day, split into three feedings
The best thing you can do is give her lots of quality hay and spread her feed out into three or four feedings. What kind of grazing does she have available?
