Upstate NY-this is scary!

EEE (Eastern Equine Encephalitis) now found in Oneida County! Natural mosquito control options!

They just confirmed that they found the infected mosquitoes-infected with EEE-today. Last week the testing showed NONE. Scary. From what I know, horses are very susceptible, and the vast majority (around 90%) die. People are rarely infected, but most often leaves them mentally/neuologically impaired. (not sure which) About 30% people infected die.

Guess it is time we call the vets for the vaccine-it wasn't necessary in the spring.......

That is scarey!!! Scarier is the fact that it takes several weeks for the vaccine to really be effective, so horses potentially already infected will still get it, vaccine or not. Will be keeping everyone's horses in my thoughts that's for sure!!!!

I know! We will call the vet in the am and see what they advise. In the meantime......back to shopping for bubbles big enough for my horses.....
