Wanted to get different opinions to vaccinate or not! When you solely pleasure ride in your own area, not traveling, other barns or rings, how necessary do you think it is? And which ones are highly recommend? Thank you in advance for your opinions.
I would vaccinate even if I didn't go around town just because I board and someone else might bring something in or I could come across a horse on the trails that does. I vaccinate twice a year. Posted via Mobile Device
I vaccinate Tetanus and Flu jabs - i'm in the UK so that's all I need - we've no other horses (a much awaited foal should be here anyday) so we're just going to do a worm count from now as she's just had her last wormer pre-foaling.
I'm not knowledgeable enough to not go with the vaccines so I err on the side of caution with Foxy's health
My horses are generally in the same boat. I vaccinate with a 4 way every year. This year, I will add west Nile and Equine influenza because the Mosquitos are getting worse, and last year there were a few cases in this area. We will also travel more with the horses this year to trails, lessons and a couple of shows.
Some diseases are not limited to horse to horse transmission (I.e. West Nile).
It is best to ask your veterinarian what the risks are in your area and vaccinate accordingly.
I never vaccinated mine until about 3 weeks ago I do mounted patrol, and it was madatory. I just did the 5 way because I had to. If it was my choice, I would have left mine unvaccinated like he has been his entire 18 years. Posted via Mobile Device
