Vaccinations in Canada?

I was just searching for a place to buy vaccine in Canada.. after I got a Jeffer's Pet Supply email. They sell Innovator 4 for horses.. a vial for 10 horses for $159.. but they don't ship to Nova Scotia.. saw a post on here .. saying that a member lives on the boarder and gets the vaccine for their horses in the States. Wondering if there is any problem getting it across the boarder? I am tired of paying upwards of $2000 to have a vet vaccinate 10 horses every spring!
Thanks for your time.. greatly appreciate it!

Hi Mollorty. Will your vet not sell you the vaccine (from out of his office) without his services (ie doing the vaccinations on site)? Where I am, the vet will do either but I have them come out to do dental work once a year so I combine vaccinations with that trip and then there is essentially no extra cost to me. Just as a side note, I vaccinate for rabies also and that has to be vet administered (legal thing).

Yes.. they will sell it, but it is still about 4x the price that it is sold for in the States.. and my vet charges $2/min at the barn.. and the extra time to vaccinate 13 horses.. adds up fast!

It is illegal for you to buy horse vaccines through the mail and in order for you to purchase it legally through a veterinarian, the vet has to have seen your horse before and if they haven't, and they sell you vaccine for the horse, they are committing fraud and a felony.

I am not here to promote anythingNo, that's not true, I am here to promote everything equestrian and everyone enjoying horses!

Yes, I understand and know that.. but wonder why, if I lived in the states, I could buy it cheaply and administer it myself. Also, wormers here are way more expensive than in the States.. same product? Should it cost Canadians so much more to keep horses than our counterparts in the States?

Unfortunately thats just life, be very careful with the wormers bought some in states and took them back and almost got in a lot of trouble. He let us through but almost didn't. Its dosn't make sense wormers are 1.99 and up there and start at 13.99 here funny part is some of the ones in the states are made in Ontario... go figure! :p

Yep, it doesn't seem quite right that horse stuff is more expensive here but I get having to go through the middle man, etc. all add to the final cost. I suppose on the plus side at least the human health care is considerably cheaper here than in the States.
