Is it warm enough?

It seems a lot of people are taking rugs off of there horses here in Ireland and the uk. But nobody has taken any off where Lola is..This week the weather will be around 12-16 degrees celsius..Is that warm enough to take rugs off? Of course the weather changes a lot here but I doubt it will get dramatically cold now. Although it does still go down to around 1-5 degrees celsius at night.

Or should just wait until next month? I think so people said they were taking rugs off next month.

I do not think anyone can answer this question for you. It depends totally on the horse and what your blanket routine was, etc.

12degC = approx 54degF.

That is pretty warm if you did not rug until it got really cold and your horse had on minimal blanketing all winter.

If you rugged as soon as the temps dropped even slightly and you have added layer during the colder weather and modified layers depending on the temp then that is probably not warm enough for your horse to go totally naked outside.

The temperatures here are similar, I have taken Flash's winter blanket off and now he just has a minimally filled rainsheet on.

As Always said, it really depends on how you started blanketing.

Our horses are shedding like maniacs. They dont' ever get blankets. Now, we are inhaling big wads of fur when we groom. Yuck!

Same here Tiny!

Well the horses answered my question today! Most of them were sweating under the rugs. But I still put Lola's back on..I felt so bad! It was really warm and sunny and she was stuck under a rug!

I put a rug on her in November. It was cold enough then. The same rug has been on her all winter so nothing has changed.
