Water/Something in horses ear? Infection starting?
My horse just started showing signs of what I think might mean he has something in his ear. I'll explain. Today when I put him in the crossties, he pitifully kept shaking his head ever so slightly. Not a thrashing shake, just like if he had one fly annoying him. Each shake had a good while in between.
When I went to curry him, I started up on his neck behind his ear, and on the right side he acted like a headshy horse and moved away from the pressure. Now, he has never been headshy his whole life and I've had him since he was 18 months old. (He is 6 1/2 now) I could put my hand up and he wouldn't do anything, only when I applied pressure. There is no swelling and the area is not hot. He also ate his food like normal, and was a very good boy when we schooled for 15 mins too.
Does it sound like anything you've ever dealt with? We had some pretty hard rainfall the day before yesterday and I'm wondering if he could have some water in it? What did the vet do for those of you who've known horses with that?
I am going to call the vet tomorrow and get a flashlight out there to see if there is anything lodged down there. If I can't see anything, we will see if the vet wants to wait it out, or if he needs to come out and assess him.
Thanks guys, and deffinately give me some advice :)
