Weight/Muscle Builder

I'm wanting to supplement Gunner's food with a weight gainer/muscle builder. He could use about 100lbs more in groceries, and I'd like to see his chest and neck muscle out a little more. It wouldn't hurt him to get coat and hoof benefits too.

He currently eats a 12% sweet feed, 2lbs a day, a feed through wormer, and a probiotic, plus 3-4 flakes and plenty of turn out. He's also 17, and fairly sensitive, and seems to be a bit of a hard keeper.

I'm currently trying a product from SmartPak, but he seems to hate it. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'd say phase out the sweet feed and put him on a nice, simple, Senior feed. Hopefully some other members can point in you in the right direction for one My own dear Loki was on sweet feed and oats for a while and he's relatively hot to begin with, I had nothing but weight loss and poor weight issues. It's probably fine for nice quite horses with slow metabolisms

As for weight gain, I would supplement with beet pulp and maybe even some corn. What kind of hay is he getting? I love my Prairie/Clover/Alfalfa/Grass mix hay, or even just plain Prairie bales. Keeps a good weight :)

what brand is your feed???? I recently bought a bag of siminol senior wellness, and I love it. It's high proten, high fat, low sugar. It's made for easy digestion and easy to chew. It also has other great things it is as well, for joint helth and blah blah blah. I have a hard keeper as well. She gets that along with some alfalfa pellets and a basic minural supplament(free choice) and as much costal as she can eat.

IMHO a muscle builder is a waist of money. I know people that have bought it, I never saw a diffrence on the horse just there wallet. The only way to get muscle is a good diet, good excercise, and ginetics.(SP?)
