West Nile in 2 horses in PA

On 8/21/2012, a case of West Nile virus (WNV) was reported in a Horse near Burnham, Pennsylvania. WNV is a potentially deadly virus that causes inflammation of the brain and threatens horses, birds and humans.1 While the risk of horses contracting the disease is lower than it used to be, equine WNV remains dangerous and widespread - a serious threat to the health of horses throughout the country. 1 One out of three horses that gets sick from WNV dies or must be euthanized.2

Looks like there are LOTS of cases close by (mostly in humans though, which makes it even more scary).

We have a crazy number of people here in Florida who have contracted it. I think the news said counts in the 30 the other night. No reports in horses yet though.

2 cases in Oklahoma, they are singing the praises of vaccinating. Saying that without the vaccines there would be many more sick horses.

A human died in NC last week from WNV. I have both horses vaccinated for it, thank goodness.
