Wet Horse

I am sure I am making a big deal out of nothing but...we just rescued a miniature pony Christopher Robin. He has his own stall where is own food, hay and water is. Its warm with fresh shaving but when it rains or as it's doing today snow he stays outside. By the end of the day he is soaked. I try to dry him he doesn't like it.

My worry is he will catch a chill and get sick. I was told by the rescue people where he came from he didn't like to be closed in so we haven't done that yet. He has a v-e-r-y heavy coat thick mane and huge tail. Is this a problem?

Mine is always out in the rain and snow even though he has a nice warm shed he could be in.

Unless he is shivering and looking cold, he should be fine as their hair insulates them and tends to keep their actual skin dry.

I wouldn't try to dry him unless you know he's soaked to the skin. Poke your finger up into his coat and see if the undercoat is dry. When you try to dry them you can end up pushing the wet down to the skin.. Lay a cooler(fleece blanket will work) on him for 20 minutes if he'll let ya, that will soak up any excess. But don't rub.
