Very very rare is that a possibility. Not only that but if he had missed one your gelding would be trying to breed mares if he had the chance, because although he only has one testicle, he still has an active supply of testosterone meaning he will have a stallion libido. HOWEVER. One thing that MAY be possible would be that he cut to too far from the base of the testicles. The closer the cut to the horses body the less stallion like he will be. If he was cut far from his body, then he will have more stallion like tendencies.
I'm not sure where I heard that but I have found it to be true.
30% of geldings (I got this statistic from Horse & Rider Magazine, I didn't make it up) retain (noticeable) stallion like tendencies throughout their life. He may be one of those geldings.
I just think he's acting too stallionish....I mean I've been around some fairly stallion-ish geldings...but he's far worse than then. He's well behaved and everything but when a mare gets close he is vocal, usually drops, and will just be show off. He'll prance and nicker towards her.
He hasn't been in a pasture with a mare so I don't know if he'd mount her or not, but I dunno if I'll even take the chance of it
In all honesty, he could be one of those horses who was cut too far away from the body. Its not too uncommon. He could be one of those special horses that tries to breed mares even after being gelded, its not unheard of.
Some horses are gelded and the only thing it changes is their fertility.

kk maybe that's so...
in all honestly, I don't mind if he was a stallion still haha...he's so well behaved....besides for his few "look at me pretty mares" act.
It's pretty hard to just "miss a testicle" when castrating a horse. Now if he had a retained testicle your vet would have had to go in and get it if he went ahead with the castration at that time or maybe put off surgery to see if he would drop the second one, but you and he would have known about it.
It is not the distance from the testical where the cord is cut but being sure that the vas deferens is removed (commonly called the "squealer button"), but even complete castration isn't a guarantee of no studdish behavior because testosterione is still produced by other glands in the body.
There is a slight possibility that he missed "one". It's not very high, but "it" could not have dropped. You could get a vet check.
Also, is he built like a stallion (when I think stallion, I think think neck...that's something to look for).
A gelding at my old farm used to try and breed mares all the time and he had never bred before, and was gelded under a yearling. Its strange how some of them are.
Trust me, they can be that way. We have one pony you'd SWEAR was a stallion - he even tries to 'do the deed' when needs must mean he is put out with a particularly flirty mare. We've had another in the past that couldn't even share a fenceline with mares because he's show off and call to them non stop. Both of them were checked out and everything was definitely gone!
Many peple blame it on colts being cut late, but we have one that was cut at 4 and one at 12 AFTER being used to breed and they're not the ones with the problems...
honestly...no idea. On the transfer papers it said he was 7 years old when he was gelded....BUT the gelding date AND purcahse date are the same....and it said that "if gelding date is unknown put the date of purchase" (didn't see that at first) so it could have been he was gelded young
I might get him checked, but he has never given me any problems when I ride with mares. When the vet is out I might mention to her, but I can't afford to pay her for her checking due to I'm low on money at the moment

just to let you guys know, I almost bought a horse that I thought was a gelding, he was studdish with the ladies (arch his neck and puff out) along with a lot of talking, he would get defensive with the stallions at the show, well I did not purchase him because of soundness issues. he was then sold as trail riding sound only. the new owners turned him out with a group of Arab mares, and sure enough, he bred all of the mares, he was an inverted gelding. (he had both of his boy parts there, just up inside, they did not drop!) they said it cost them a lot more money to have him gelded. so it is possible.
how long has it been since he was gelded and was he ever bred? I have one that was bred before he was gelded at age 4 and he acted so much like a stud that we had him tested for cryptorchidsm, he turned out not to be. We bought him at four, he'll be 10 this year and I would say it took about 2, maybe 3 years for him to turn into a normal gelding.... (he would not only mount mares but he would actually... well... you know)
