What Are Signs of Founder? And Preventions?

What are some signs of founder? A judge once told me that she thought my pony could be prone to founder, and I've heard a lot of Shetlands get it, so I would really like to know some signs that a pony is going to or is foundered/foundering. I have 3 Shetlands that have never had it that I know of, but I would still like to look out for it and prevent it.

Hi,

Really good question & prevention is always preferrable to treating the problem, so the more you learn the better. Here is a link to a good article on laminitis(aka founder) and includes some current ideas & research; Cyberhorse Guide to Horse Health - Explaining Laminitis Part Two - What Causes Laminitis & Symptoms

In addition, safergrass.org & hoofrehab.com are among some other good sources for learning more.
