Question What is wrong with her frog?

Miya_FRog on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

I took a photo of my mare's frog.

She had a small abcess that we had been treating and it seems better but she started limping yesterday. While inpecting her hoof expecting it to the abcess we found that her frog seems like it is torn.

I gave her bute, washed the hoof, sprayed with iodine, covered with ichthamol. I didn't have a boot so, I used duct tape to make a temporary boot (is pretty muddy, it probably will come off).

Any ideas of what this issue could be?

The frog needs trimming first. I would be bothered with the deep crease in the center of the frog. I would open it up and start treating for thrush. The little absess on the right side of the picture I would see how it cuts out once the frong is trimmed.
Again the deep crease in the center of the frog is what I feel is the problem and I would be treating it for thrush. I would clean it up with my knife as best I could and then try and even using a hoof pick see how deep it is and if the horse is sensitive to your probing.
I use copper sulphate in a squeeze bottle and put the nozzle down as deep as the crease goes and back flood with this mixture.
In extreme cases you inject the crease with utter ointment use for mastistis in cows

My horse had terrible feet when I got him. I did everything Riosdad said and it worked like a charm until the crevice in his frog closed up.

I looked for some copper sulphate but haven't found it at the feed store. Is there a product that you typically use or do you mix this?

I would start by soaking with ACV and or treating this frog with a mixture of Triple antibiotic(neosporin) and athletes foot cream. Equal parts, suck it up in a syringe and stick a little bit up in that crevice daily. Not sure but it looks like the heels should be trimmed down some so they are at the widest part of the frog, farther back than they are now.
