it looks to me like a mole.
You might want to get that checked out. Could be cancerous.

could be a scaroid. My horse had one a while back on his leg and he got it chopped off. But would be best to get a vet out

It looks like "Gray horse disease", which is melanoma. Which is skin cancer. Make the vet come out and remove it to send it for testing.

^^ agreed. It looks like a melanoma to me, but only a vet can tell you for sure.

Spent a whole hour today laying in a pasture, waiting for a sparkling vampire to show up. Alas, I woke up and looked over, only to find a mound of horse crap. Sigh.

Yeah, looks like a melanoma.

Most, if not all grey horses will get them.

many appy's are also prone to skin cancer as well.
It looks like it has been going on for some time by looking at the size of it.
Your vet will need to be called out to check on your horse to determine the diagnosis.

Wish you the best of luck.

Looks dangerously like melanoma, a skin cancer targeted particularly at gray horses over 14 years of age. It can be removed if the vet comes out immediately, depending on how long it's been there.
