I am seriously considering calling the vet for my horse but I'm a bit put off in case its something I can deal with, without the only equine vet who is really expensive.
We have had some flooding over the last few days so there as been a lot of water around the place lately. Yesterday I went out to find Sam shivering from being super wet and the big winds. I immediately put a rug on him and he looked much happier. Due to the weather I couldn't get outside to rug him the day before and wasn't too worried since they have a shelter, which he obviously didn't use.
I left the rug on him this morning when I went to work because it was still a bit wet and windy. When I got home at midday I found him a bit sweaty under the rug, though it had warmed up a bit before I could get home. I also found his legs swollen from pastern to knee/hocks. They didn't feel overly hot but he wasn't happy with me touching them, there was also spots that looked like he had been bitten by insects on one hind leg. He also looked very sucked up and his ribs were sticking out a little bit. He doesn't appear to want to really move around either.
I wouldn't be so worried if there was one swollen leg or something but it just seems odd that all four a swollen. I'm also a bit worried since a horse at work is suspected to have ross river fever. Anyone got ideas?
