I'd love to see pix when you get a chance! The vet and vet tech didn't seem to think it was staph, but the fact that they weren't concerned about it made me decide to try the vetericyn before going further.

Thumbs up

Day 3 of using Vetericyn. He's still healing and I'm applying this once or twice a day. He's not itching as much and the gross scabs and oozing have stopped. I hope this continues to heal this quickly!

Do you think it's going to scar?

I hope not. It's not deep but it might take a while for all of the hair to grow back.

Vectryn is amazing stuff, it helped my gelding a long time ago.

Photo 2 - you can see the "hole"

Photo 3 - after removing the abscess pockets (which at the time looked like eggs or larvae, until inspection under a microscope) you can see one at the bottom that almost looked like it was crawling out - the pressure behind them did cause some to "burst" on their own.

Photo 4 - different views of what came out

The newest photo you posted appears that your horse's face is healing better than I expected after seeing the first pictures. I would bet that the disinfecting you have done has helped and that he is over all able to fight off whatever infection/allergy/?? May have caused the sores.

My gelding was 23 when last summer when he got this and under an extreme amount of stress, so that's why it got so bad. But, I said I would post the photos, so hopefully they will help someone.
