Chemical Plant Near Horses

Where I ride, the barn is at the owners' house with only their horses. I love going there so much and I don't think I could live without them. They live on a highway where they are building a chemical plant just a few miles down the road. The company that runs the plant is actually relocating a plant that blew up last year. The area that they are building in has tons of horses, livestock, crops, and people.

The barn owners said that if the plant blows up, the chemicals distributed into the air can kill animals, and that runoff from the chemical plant can get into the water (pretty much everyone in the area uses well water). I'm not too sure if this is true, but if it is, and if the plant blows up again, many of the animals could be killed.

We really don't want this plant being built. Someone has created a petition to sign that is against the building of the plant. I would like to know if an explosion or something that could happen would kill the animals.

If you are +18 years and support the call-off of building the plant, you can sign the petition here:

Petition | Louisiana Legislators: Block multi-chem/Halliburton from relocating to Maurice community | Change.org

Thank you so much!

(not sure if this is in the right section; this seems like the only one that would fit)

Have you Googled the company to see if any of this is true?

Don't doubt it, but would be good to read for yourself.

And maybe EPA could get involved.

But unless members are in LA, won't do any good for any of us to sign it.

Dig around and see what their track record is, what they make and what the environmental impact statement is on them.
