Reba Mcentire 01/2/1998-10/16/2008

So on October 15th I was on my way to see my horse...I had just picked up her brand new purple seat western saddle and saddle pad. Well when I got to the property my horse and two other horses that were with her were nowhere to be found. In a panic I went searching around the pasture and barn area and did'nt find them. I shook a grain can and still no horses. I called the property owner and notified him that I could'nt find the horses. So when it started getting dark I went driving around to ask neighbors if they had seen them. The owner of the property where I kept my horse called me and said when he got home he would go search for them. One of the horses was his horse. So i kept searching til it was too dark and the property owner told me he would continue the search. So I went home and said I would be out first thing in the morning...Well I got a call at 6 am or around that time from the property owner...the phone cut out. So I laid back down and thought maybe he found them and he would call back. Well he called back and this time it was news that I did'nt want to hear...He said my horse had been hit and before the phone cut out again I said I would be right there. I only had to drive 5 or so miles to get to where he lived and the drive felt like forever. Well I was dreading the worst and as I got around the second to last corner before his house. My heart stopped I saw police cars everywhere and a smashed up car...My heart did a backflip. I still did'nt know if my horse was dead or alive. I finally got my answer...just past the smashed car there was my beloved Reba...DEAD. I slammed on the brakes and jumped out as the police tried to stop me. I yelled thats my horse. Thats my horse. I ran to her and cried and cried petting her and telling her how sorry I was....She had died instantly and the property owner went by after it had happened( he was still searching for the horses) and was the one that drug her out of the road and into a field. I have never felt sooo dead. She was my life and I miss her terribly...Please don't let this happen to your horse. Make sure your fencing is secure.

See where he moved the horses to the fencing was bad and one of the horse who did'nt respect fences went right threw it and the others followed. I understand i made a stupid decision to keep my horse in a area where the fencing was bad but I paid for what I did. I lost my mare, my best friend. So please don't be hurtful. Trust me I suffered. I really just need to get this out to other horse people since I don't have anyone to talk to who would understand...

Oh I am so sorry! I also lost a horse in a very traumatic way... It's the ****s. If you ever need to talk... I'm here.

Oh, and sometimes, you just have to cry. Break down and cry, hon, because that's where the healing starts. I'm so sorry for your loss. Don't cry for the horses... Love the ones that are here. *hugs*

I am so sorry. My horse and his herd mates all got out the other evening from a very big heavy gate- so I am thinking if a horse really wants to go through a gate, they can.

Grieving is a process that is cyclical.... keep going through it and in time (who knows how long though) you will feel better.

God must have loved her a lot. I bet she's doing wonderful up there, pain-free...

i know EXACTLY how you feel. and i do mean EXACTLY.

i'm so sorry you cant be with her yet, but make the best of it until the day comes that you can see her again and she will never be taken from you.

I'm praying hard for you tonight.

He carried me away from all my fears, and his mane was there to wipe my tears. -RIP Vegas, my best friend.
