I met Park, a gorgeous 16.2 hand dark bay Thoroughbred mare in June of 2008. I was looking for a new horse for beginner novice/ novice eventing. I rode her twice in a clinic with my trainer. We were virtually the perfect match. I then took her cross country a month later and fell even more deeply in love with her.

In the month that followed, I decided to push forward with my original horse and not buy Park. I watched many people try her out at my barn and abroad. She was the perfect lady in every way, but a typical mare:)

In November of that year, after a first place finish (with a score of 27!) at Queeny Park Horse Trials in St. Louis, MO with my trainer, Park started showing signs of a neurological issue. I rode her twice after and each time she stumbled multiple times. Her owners took her for testing and of course I was there every step of the way. They found that there was something wrong with her brain, but didn't know what. She was extremely scared of people coming on herl left side and would fall if you scared her.

She was humanely euthanized a week later at the small clinic where her vet resided. He did everything he could to save her but we all knew she would never return to a normal life. I was there when she was euthanized; I knew she was at peace.

Post-mortem autopsy was inconclusive and we will never know what happened to Palisades Park.

Here's to you girl. Thank you for a great summer...
