Sparkie was very hard to love. She was born on our property, and died on our property, so she was special to us. She was always grumpy, but we understood her as knew she suffered from horrible laminitis all her life.
Unfortunatly, we tried everything we could to cure her of her pain, however there seemed to be nothing that we could do. She wasnt young when she died, about 20, but she still had life left in her if given the chance.
About a month ago I got the call. That sparkie had been found with her leg, twisted and broken in 4 places. She was put down, thought cruel to keep her living.
The vet was baffled as to how her leg broke, we think that she suffered from an equine version of Osteoporosis, but we never found out.
To make it worse, the next week as I rode down westgrove Ave on my Polly, I met a woman mowing her lawn. Her and her husband were bare foot specialists, and had gotten a horse that was in sparkies condition trotting that morning. To think that less than 1 street away was Sparkies 2nd chance at life.
Rest in peace Sparkie
