Today, one of my friends had to put down her horse, Blitz.
She bought him off of one of my other friends, didn't officially even own him yet (she owed $240 more) and just moved him to the barn where I keep my horse at last Saturday.
She had been down faithfully, every day after working midnights as soon as she got off work, took him for their morning ride or romp around the arena, brushed him and cleaned his stall.
Today, I was at my friend's house and she decided to come visit and by some freak accident after I left, he ended up on the (not so busy) road and hit by a fracking trunk. They did not stop, just continued on.
At first glance, he was walking, but his leg was completely torn up, but everyone thought as long as it wasn't broken it would be okay..it was beyond repair, the vet was able to stick almost 4 fingers through his joint, the tendons and muscle was exposed. Even if she could've afforded to try and fix it (estimated at $10,000 just to start) he would never be ridable, and there was no promise he could recover. He was five years old ): After the vet put him down, upon further inspection, joint fluid was leaking and the vet confirmed they had made the right decision to put him down.
Rest easy little pony, I know you're up there having a good time <3
