The Taj Mahal Of Horses...

Taj Mahal was a 21 yr old (arab x quarter) horse when on one new years eve he spooked during fireworks and decided to up and change paddocks, my uncles partner went out one morning after party celebrations the night before (new years eve) and alas there were two white horses in her paddock, her pony bobby and Taj Mahal.

When his owner was found she was looking to rehome him. she bought him when she was 15 and he was 2 yrs old.
she had him a long time and now with a family she didnt have time for a horse with such energy.

Taj joined our family just after the passing of my tb x standardbred gelding and became firm friends with my shetland pony, Pony (his name)

Taj had a problem of as soon as there was weight in his stirrups he was off running, this stemmed from lack of work and lots of energy lol

After some time he settled in and we did everything together; mustering, doing the old pony express to the neighbors to pay the rent and 30+km round trips.
the only thing this old man didnt like was trucks, buses and motorbikes anything else and he was fine with it.

Several weeks ago i got a phone call telling me that my horse looked ill (he lived on the property my dad rents on) turns out the landlords were putting out medicated cattle feed trying to up their cattle weight for sale after SLASHING 10 acres of feed off (who does this you wonder? orchid farmers, not cattle farmers)
the vet came out and diagnosed blood in his lungs which i found out moments before his arrival when tj sneezed on me, elevated heart beat & rapid weight loss (he lost about 200 kilo in 2 weeks)
Taj was laid to rest on the 4th of july after three weeks of hard feed and TLC nothing could be done. the vet said he looked as if he had gotten more cattle feed.

Taj was the most trusting animal ive come across, i had no hesitation to let my fathers blind partner ride him nor did i once hesitate in throwing my 3 yr old niece on him. he was high spirited and very affectionate.

God called to you in your time of pain
to ease your suffering he took you away
to his stables beyond the pearly gates
to where you'd be strong and young again.

Upon the clouds you will spend your days
Never again will you feel sickness nor the pain of old age
And heart break you will have none.
For one day we'll be together once more.

There will come a day when your grazing away
that a familiar scent will drift your way
your head will lift and there i'll be
together we will join in heart and soul

but until that smell reaches you
rejoin my lost loved ones
and together form a herd
with Bobbet, Milky, Tobias and Pony

One day we will all be together once more.

Rest in Peace old fella, know that here your missed..

Taj was laid to rest with a belly of food his last sneak act was i had 2 carrots in my back pocket and i forgot about them, he soon found them though i was petting the colt and felt a pulling at my pocket and sure enough there he was trying to pull it out. i gave him the carrots a few minutes before the vet turned up.

I will miss his beautiful whinny and gallop-slid- to-a-stop-an-inch-off-mommahs boots and his head buts/put-my-back-out rubs lol

Thanks SEAmom, he was a good horse and i wont forget him in a hurry. He would have still had a good 3-4 yrs left in him, before the poisoning. but nothing to be done but cherish his memory and move on with the young boy :)

He sounds like he was an awesome horse. I am really sorry but the best thing you have now is memories, which you can never lose.
