His name was Tommy Hawk, but we called him Tommy. He was a wonderful horse for our beginning riders. He was loved dearly by all who met him, especially the ones who rode him.
Foaled: 7/1984 Donated: 2/9/1996.
He sadly went blind and was put to rest on 12/16/11
Tommy was in pretty sad shape when we rescued him in 1996. It didn't take long for him to put on weight, but it took a while for him to gain energy and feel good.
He was 12 years old and didn't mind being tacked up or having a rider on his back, he just had no idea why the person was up there. When given leg pressures he would turn and try to bite your toes.
He has turned out to be a pretty good horse. He won't try to dump a beginner, but he will take them back to the hitching post when he's had enough. And if they're heavy handed it doesn't take long for him to trot back to the hitching post.
12/16/2011 ~ We are no longer able to adequately manage the pain in his eyes and his eyesight is failing. We said goodbye to an old friend and put him down today.
I will always miss my Blind old boy......
