Ok, my horse is an 18 year Arabian, barefoot and kept in the woods his whole life. After I got him, I noticed his legs popped when I cleaned his feet and his coat was very dull, rough and just nasty. He is in perfect health, and he has amazing feet. He gets four pounds of Bartlett 13.5% protein pelleted feed a day and as much hay as he wants. I started him on this supplement about a month ago, and have seen MASSIVE improvement in his coat, and he no longer has any stiffness in his joints. I can't tell a difference in his feet, but they were great in the first place. He is ridden 2+ hours daily on varied terrain, from flat work to steep, rocky trails. He looks better than the five year old eventing mare my friend owns. What do you guys think of this stuff? Equine Joint - Hoof - Coat Pellets
The link you entered isn't working, however, a thought here. First, not all supplements work with all horses..which is why there are so many out there. If you do an ingredient comparison on any similar supplements, the ingredient list may read very similar but the amounts may be slightly different. While one horse may have good luck with a certain portion of this or that ingredient, another horse may have no reaction at all. The ingredients for the coat and hoof are essentially the same so if you aren't seeing improvement in the feet, which you said were good anyway, it is because the feet are getting the nutrients for health they already need or because they are/were in such good condition anyway, you just don't notice any changes.
Given the description of your horse and his improvement, I would say that if the supplement for which you provided the link is the supplement you are using then that supplement is the "best" for your horse regardless of reviews.
Thanks! And I agree, it does vary horse to horse. This is the first supplement he has ever had, so he is rather sensitive. Here is the link, hopefully it will work: Equine Joint - Hoof - Coat Pellets
If he's looking better than you should stick with it - bit I think in the same way as tlkng1 - some things work for some horses and some don't
If your horse was kept in a wood all its life before you got him he might have been suffering from two things
Lack of sunlight which could have affected his production of Vitamin D which can lead to lots of other problems and
Lack of exercise which is also vital for healthy joint and muscle function
The main improvements you're seeing in him are most likely down to your better management regime though the supplement will give him a boost considering where he was at when you got him
If it's working, then its working. Keep using it. Ditto to tlkng1
I myself started my horse on Platinum Performance CJ about a month and a half ago. WOW do I love it!! It's horribly expensive, but my horse is always going to be on it. Platinum Performance® CJ | Platinum Performance
With hoof supplements, you generally won't see a drastic change for quite a few months- about 6.
This is according to a few farriers I've spoken with.
