Alfalfa Pellets?!

Hi all, I'm new here and I have a question about Alfalfa pellets. I have a 12-year-old mare who is turning out to be a hard keeper. I was reading that Alfalfa pellets could help put a little weight on her. How much is enough? Or what exactly is a serving? Currently she is getting Mare/Foal three times a day. 2 scoops in the morning, one during the day and 2 more in the evening (a scoop is one of those 3 quart ones) Plus her free choice hay. She also gets corn oil. I'm just curious as to how much of the pellets to add to her feed. Thanks for the help.
