Young horses need quite a lot of protein, but it's important not to pack them too full of feed or they grow too fast and their joints can be badly affected. Fibre is a better food source for young horses than sugar and starch, so maybe look at beet pulp as a supplementary feed and keep them in grass for hours as well.
