Ok so I have done plenty of research on both BOSS and FLAX.... and I am getting that BOSS is ok when supplemented with flax.. but my horse is not getting any pasture so therefore she is lacking omega 3 big time, so if I supplement BOSS that just raises the amount of Omega 6 which I have found is NOT good. SOOO that being said Flax is my best bet specially since she already has some kind of skin thing going on. They also say that you can feed flax whole... can anybody agree with that?? I was reading that research was done that even if there is seeds in the manure.. it is just an empty hull and all of the nutrients was absorbed in the digestion. They say that if you grind it even when you are feeding right when grinned, you still loose some nutrients. ANY OPINIONS????

I wondered the same thing. I can buy flax seeds in bulk, but my food processor doesn't grind them well. I also know that when I was researching ground flax to add to my family's food, everything warned to use it within a few days or it will go rancid. So buying a big bucket of ground flax would seem useless.

My horses are on pasture or grass hay all year, with no grain of any kind, except the occasional handful as a treat. I've been thinking of adding BOSS and flax seeds to help skin, coat and hooves without weight gain. Am I throwing money away if I do this?

How much of each do I feed? I know I've heard about a cup or so of BOSS. How much flax seed?
