Why was their hay taken away? It looks like it's still cold enough in this picture that there cannot be THAT much grass growing already. I'd say once he sheds out, you'd be surprised at his body condition. I suppose if he is very wide barreled..then maybe he can still be at a good weight and ribby. The Body Scoring Scale goes like this: 1 is emaciated, and definitely not this horses case, 5 is ideal, where you can feel the ribs, but not see them, and 9/10 is obese, where you cannot feel the ribs. Now, my horse has a very narrow barrel so looking at him from the front, he looks super skinny, but from the side he looks fat lol and you can't see any of his ribs.
