A wormer might make a horse look like they've lost weight if they were bloated from a heavy worm load. I've never heard of it causing actual weight loss, but I'm definitely no expert on it.
Safeguard and Panacur use the same chemical, at the same concentration (unless you're referring to the Panacur Powerpac, which is still the same chemical, but at double dose for 5 days) If you think the horse is still wormy, you might want try another chemical. I'd talk to your vet about whether or not a wider spectrum (like Zimectrin Gold, Equimax, or Quest Plus) wormer would be appropriate.
Well, I thought it was the same myself, but was told that Panacur had more of the actual medicine than Safeguard. I will talk to the vet, about going with something different, she looks as if she has lost weight, and yes, she was bloated.
