Can you ride a horse while trying to put weight on?

I'm talking light trail rides so he doesn't forget his manners. But I'm also having the hardest time getting weight on him (teeth/vet check have been done).

personally if you are having trouble putting weight on him i wouldn't ride him. i wouldn't really being working him at all. but i would be doing basic ground manners.

the more energy he exerts the less he is gonna gain.

yes i would because eventualy he will have to be ridden and then he is going to drop weight.

You need to find a regime which can be maintained aand thus it is easier to workout if the horse is in work.

my lad has dropped bit of weight recently, he is in full work so i have changed his feed to a more oil rich feed with greater calorie content and he has started to gain weight, when he is at a weight that I like then i will lessen the amount untill he starts maintaining his weight

RIDE your horse FORWARDS and keep him STRAIGHT

Riding really depends on his weight and how much he needs to gain.

Thanks. He definitely needs to relearn his ground manners so I think I will just work with him on that for now!
