...Interesting. Care to add which diseases it helps prevent and how? I've never heard that before, and no offense, but highly doubt it's accuracy.

Everyone else seemed to answer everything well. I'll just add that I had my girls on garlic powder last winter and it really helped with flies. This summer, I'm trying Apple Cider Vinegar. I've been giving it for a month and don't see much helpfulness, so when I'm done with this jug, I'll probably go back to garlic. =]

Just wondering how do you prepare flax seed before feeding it? I soak and cook it, but have heard of different ways... Which one is the healthiest for the horse?

When I worked at a barn, the little pony mare that got flax seed had it ground up in a little food processor thing and fed as a course powder.
