EquiLix??

I was hoping to start my 3 girls with a tub but am reading that they will usually eat a whole tub in a matter of days if they haven't had them or equipride in their diet? Does anyone use these? I started a thread earlier but got no replies. I'd really like some advice on them.

That pretty much sums up the tub, which is why I never used it.

I used EquiPride in the bag for 3-1/2 years. You can control what they get and the daily requirement is only ten ounces per horse.

I stopped feeding it because I would have to drive 92 miles one way to buy it for "only" $44 dollars/50 lb bag.

The closest place to me HAS to sell it for $60/bag or they lose their right to sell it. With four horses, I'm not paying that kind of money, so I went to McCauley's M10-Balancer which is also oat/corn/soy free.

So, buy the bag instead of the Lick; it will last a lot longer and you know each horse is getting what they need --- no more, no less

Does the equipride cause a horse to get hot like some supplements?

It didn't with any of my four but, after three years of eating it, one-by-one they all went strike and refused to eat EquiPride, no matter what I mixed it with

It didn't help that I had to drive 38 miles and the price had gone up to $60/bag, so I switched to McCauley's M-10 RB, which is also soy and grain-free, and doesn't cost $60/bag. They eat 16 ounces daily of the McCauley's as opposed to ten ounces of EquiPride but there's still a bit of cost savings and they happily eat the McCauley's --------so far

Ok, that's good to know. That's interesting that they all stopped eating it? I'll look into the McCauly's, but I ordered a tub of the EquiPride. 25 lbs for $60 shipped isn't bad, that should last over 6 months for one horse, so that comes out to $10 a month, not bad compared to a lot of supplements, IMO.

Three of the four never were too crazy about the taste, when fed by itself. I always had to mix in a half cup of equine rice bran, their Omega-3 Horseshine and some water. They got used to it eventually.

I don't know if EquiPride changed something in the formula that made it taste different at the end but, when it got to third horse not wanting it, I raised my eyebrows, when the fourth horse stopped eating it a week later, I decided I'd better find something they would eat - lollol

I should add that I kept the EquiPride in the spare bedroom, so it was not exposed to humidity and temperature swings. The date on the bag was 12 months out, so quality should not have been a factor either.

What makes if difficult is that one horse is oat & corn intolerant and very soy intolerant. Two other horses have metabolic issues, so can't have soy or grain either.

The no-soy or grains in the McCauley's M-10 was why I went with it. If they stop eating that, I will be S.O.L.

I ended up getting the 125# tub of equilix for $65 the girls have had it almost a week and like it but aren't sucking it down thank god, if they keep as they are it will probably last them (2 mares and a weanling) 2 months.
