I'm contemplating having our feed store mix in some oil into our sweet feed for the winter (probably have them drop out some of the "sweet" additives). While I've fed oil as a top-dressing, I was curious to know what other owners do for specialty grain mixes? Or, alternately, if you feed oil, what do you feed, for what purpose (skin/coat or weight), and how much?
Also, what kind of results have you seen? If you are mixing it into your feed, what type of horse (stock/quarter, or leaner built like, thoroughbred/arabian), how much feed, weight of your horses before/after?
Thanks for sharing! I don't expect anybody to answer every question I've posed, but I am curious to see how people approach fats in their horse's diets! I look forward to everyone's responses
