Feeding Horses Peanut Butter?

Someone recently told me that peanut butter is not safe to feed horses- is that true?

Jeeze...never heard that, but that doesn't mean it might not be true.
Years ago I had a pony who loved a PBJ sandwich...or at least part of mine. No specific preference on the jelly. PB is too expensive to feed much.
It will be interesting to see what others have to say.

I hadn't heard that either. Someone once told me that's what they gave to Mr. Ed to make him "talk"

I actually will use it to remove pine sap from my horses coat. Cheap oily peanut butter worked into the sap and then the horse will lick it until removed. Horse and peanut butter do the work for you.

Well with all the sugar in it I would def. Think it is NOT good for the horses teeth, unless you brush them every day :0)))

Roh-oh! Now we have to ask if pine sap is good for horses.

Dogs love peanut butter. You stuff the goo into those Kong things to keep them entertained. I can't imagine a horse having access to enough PB to do harm unless they get loose in a Skippy factory.
But it never hurts to ask the question.

I read somewhere that peanut butter is fine, but peanuts themselves are not because they can't digest them? Doesn't make much sense to me so I don't know if it's true or not.

that's interesting info to hang onto as I have a dreadful problem with sap and horses. I currently use baby oil.

Peanuts arent actually nuts are they - they grow underground so maybe wouldnt be accessible to horses as a natural food. A lot of people are terribly allergic to them so I think I might be cautious about feeding them

That is what I thought too. My horse will eat part of my PB&J sandwich if I let him. He's never had any problems.
