Flax seed help and a couple other questions

I need help finding whole flax seed. I live in northern Illinois USA and I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find it?

Garlic- does garlic help with flys? And how much do you give your horse? My gelding is 1000 lbs.

Grand hoof pellets- anyone ever use it?

Corn oil- does it help a good coat?

Corn oil is high in Omega 6 fatty acids, with almost no Omega 3's. Omega 3's are what help skin, coat, and hoof growth. Horses already get plenty of Omega 6's in their hay.

Flax seed and meal is very high in Omega 3 fatty acids, so you should see improvement in the horse's coat as he/she sheds and grows in a new coat.

Your local feed store should be able to order you bulk flax or flax meal. I prefer to feed flax meal. My feed store gets 50 lb bags for about $28, which is much cheaper than online prices.

I don't have any experience with garlic, but I have had decent luck using Apple Cider Vinegar to help with flies. I feed 1 cup of ACV during fly season in my horses' feed.

We feed all our horses one table spoon granulated garlic in their feed once a day...generally in their pm grain.

I ordered my flax from the health food store when I couldnt find it anywhere else. I get a 50 lb bag of whole flax at a time. I feed around 2 cups a day. I grind it just before feeding as that is how it is the most nutritious. People will argue this, but in my own experiments, I have found the best results come from feeding it this way. Its the only supplement I feed with the exception of rice bran sometimes. Good stuff.
