Has any had a Ration Balance making a horse hot?

I have an insulin resistant horse that I was feeding Triple Crown Low Starch at the recommendation of the vet. Contrary to most stories, he can be a hard keeper, especially in the winter and looses weight. All the Triple Crown dealers in my area has gone out of business. I am thinking of switching to a Ration Balancer instead but the other horse at my place can become hot (highly energetic) very easily. Since Ration Balancers are such high protein I wonder if any one knows if a horse becomes hot on Ration Balancer. I don't want to have to go to feeding 2 different feeds but will if I have to.

Even tho RB' s are high protein(30%), they're fed at usually one lb/ day. So that one lb high protein will not have any negative effect. I have my horses on RB. None of them are hotter than before. They are bright and lively, because they get the nutrition they need, but not hot.

What deserthorsewoman said. There's the same amount of protein in 1 lb of a 30% feed as there is in 3 lbs of a 10% feed, and nobody worries about the protein levels of even a 12% feed being fed at that rate. I feed my horse Triple Crown 30% Supplement, and I wish I could get him a little more 'hot'

The only problem is that she has never been feed 3 lbs of regular feed. At most, she gets about a 1 lb.

You should be fine. I feed my TB mare a ration balancer and she does not get hot from it.

Protein does not make a horse "hot". It is a common misconception. Sugar makes a horse hot, thus why the change from sweet feeds towards safer feeds like high fat/high fiber feeds.

I only feed 1lb of feed a day.

I will probably will try it. I will just start her off with a little and work my way up but she doesn't need anything right now, she is fat on grass right now.

For Oreo, the one that is Insulin resistant, I will slowly switch him from his Triple Crown Lite to the ration balancer as I run out of the Lite. He has Lite because the last time I needed feed, I couldn't find any of the Low Starch.
