Horses Weight

Hi all,

So in February I noticed my gelding was dropping some weight, so I decided to up his feed. I just added a little more beet pulp to his diet (he got about 2cups of beet pulp, a cup of rice bran and a little less than a cup of LMF Gold in addition to a joint supplement and magnesium). Between February and now he has put on some weight and added muscle both to his butt and topline. I'm pretty happy with his weight, so I decided cut back on his beet pulp (he gets a little less than a cup now). I ride him 5 days a week, typically 2 jump days 2 dressage days and 1 trail ride/hack day. We also school XC about once a month. Somebody recently told me that he looks "fat" now and I shouldn't be giving him any extra food and probably just switch him over to grass hay (he gets 2 grass 2 alfalfa currently)! I think he has filled out nicely and certainly don't think he is fat, but now I am paranoid. What do you guys think?

Also, sorry for the quality/angle of the pictures. They are just the most recent ones I have (about 2 days ago), and I was only taking them for my personal use...I wasn't planning on using them for a critique or anything.

P.S. Even though he hasn't fully shed out yet, he is the shiny-est (is this a word?) in the barn :D

I think his weight is just fine. You don't want him gaining MORE, but as he is he looks great. He is lacking some topline muscle, but that comes with exercise- not feed.

Wish my horses had been able to look so good on such a small amount of bp!
