How much should I feed my horse?

Today I bought 4 bags of Steam Rolled Oats from Feed Rite. I am wondering if you guys can help me decide how much to feed my horse per day.

Here is the feed info:

My horse is a 15.3hh Quarter horse, I'm guessing around 1200-1500lbs but I'm not sure. Here are some photos of him if that helps at all:

I have a scoop measured in quarts & pints. The whole scoop is 5pints. Would you say one scoop? Half?

I'd be surprised if your horse is 1500lbs. I would estimate that he's more in the 1100-1300 range. Also, feed is measured in pounds, not in volume. How much pasture and hay does this horse get?

In all honesty, buy a feed that is designed for horses only. Not one that is mass produced to cover multiple species.

Basically what you are feeding is glorified candy...

How much hay is your horse getting? Or how much pasture time?

I'd start with about 2 cups if fed twice daily. He appears to be in good weight right now so go easy on the oats. He may also get a little spunky on it. Our vet recommends just hay until the horse is ridden enough that it seems to tire before it should and only then add oats.

Hay = 24/7

I wanted to start feeding him oats because I've been working him a lot lately. He is beginning training & having a lot of schooling done. I've found that he's been started getting tired lately so I thought this might help give him an energy boost.

Do you think if I fed it to him every second day, I could give him 2 pints (4 cups)? If I'm working him alot would this make him gain weight?
