Really? That would sure be a bit cheaper than the "original"...How much does he recommend per horse per month?

We use it once a day for a week of each month. Each horse gets about 1/4 of a cup.

Mom2pride, I use generic Metamucil in place of Sand Clear, too.

Once a week my TB gets 2 oz. sprinkled over his feed, and the Arabians get 1 oz. each.

Some people only use it once a month, but I like to give it to them once a week.

It would be to prevent sand from building up in the stomach, which is what sand clear does.

No. I'm not even sure of what you're thinking, since Metamucil is a powder that's used for putting more fiber into someone's diet.

Metamucil, its generic counterparts, and Sand Clear all use the same type of fiber, which is psyllium.

We have used gatorade as an electrolyte before...in their water or ontop of their food. If you use it in the water during the summer, you have to scrub pails a lot more as we found the heat can make the gatorade turn the water slightly gunky.

Grandma gives them vegetable oil in a syringe.

We have also used Pepto Bismal before, but I am not sure of the reasoning behind that one.
