    I made horse cookies today!

I originally posted this in another area, but it should probably be here. Sorry for the double post.

I made cookies for the horses yesterday and most of them loved them. I just kind of winged it as far as the "recipe" goes, but I thought I'd share what I put into them, in case anyone wants to try it also.

So the plan was to use these ingredients:
Rolled oats (like what you make oatmeal from)
    Black oil sunflower seeds
    Flax seeds
    Vegetable oil
    Ground apples

Then I also looked through the fridge and found these and threw them in:
    Finely chopped carrots
    Chopped celery
    A little coconut
    A few mandarin oranges
    A couple pineapple chunks
A handful of frozen thawed peas
    Some chow mein noodles

It was very heavy on the oats, then I added the other ingredients til I was happy with the consistency. In the end it was wet enough to stick together, but wetter than most cookie dough. I patted them into balls about golf ball size, put them on a cookie sheet and baked at 400 degrees for about 15-20 minutes.

They turned out soft, but if you want something crispy, you could probably cook at maybe 325 or 350 for a while longer.

Only 1 of our horses (the always picky and suspicious one!) didn't like them. The other horses were all begging for more!

I usually make cookies for the horses around Christmas time. I take a box of cake mix and dump in whatever kind of grain I have on hand- oats, barely, bran, etc. The horses always love them, and when you use the cake mix, it is super easy to make!

I usually use white or yellow cake mix, but I think almost any flavor will work. I also put in some water and vegetable oil, but I leave out the eggs. I guess they just don't sound like something to feed a horse, although I have fed horses human cookies, and they have eggs in them, so I guess it doesn't really matter.
