Okay, I have to ask, what is "hard" alfalfa?

I generally only feed alfalfa. I stopped buying a few xtra bales of timothy as a "treat". It is 5 bucks higher a bale on a good day, and just "looks" yummy and silky. When I would feed it, they would look at it and act like I clearly must have accidently spilled something in their trough - and being of kind and gentle hearts, they acted like they forgave and understood my clumsiness......but, where is lunch? It is excellent feed....I would have to feel guilty making them eat it. No more.

"Hard feed" is the term used by Brits for 'stuff you put in a bowl'. I think "grain" is the equivalent term in North America. So hard feed refers to pellets, cubes, chaff, sugar beet, mixed grains or straights, mixed feeds, chopped alfalfa etc etc.

So your hay is pure alfalfa?
