I will have to compare the Triple Crown Senior and the Nutrena Prime and Safe Choice . What exactly should I be looking for in a feed for him? I know crude fat- he needs whatever he can get to help keep his weight on (I've finally, after 4 years, gotten him at a perfect weight!). I have also thought into adding rice bran, but would it cost more to add that to his daily feed versus having a feed that has a higher concentration of it? I know TC Senior has it, but looking at the site I do not see a specific amount of it.

Thanks for all of yalls input, it definitely helps me to have other ideas to consider and help figuring this out!!

Depending on the horse, sometimes the feed (like TC Senior, etc) isn't enough. It depends on the horse's metabolism, their job, and ulcers can make a difference. Both of mine that are now hardkeepers have ulcers.

The Arab is 26-1/2 with gastric stomach ulcers; the 25 yo TWH has Equine Metabolic Syndrome, hind gut ulcers and lipomas in the GI tract

The Arab eats 1-1/2 measuring cups daily of rice bran in addition to his Triple Crown feed.

The TWH is a long story but he can no longer eat enough of a mixed "anything" to get vitamins/minerals in him, so I feed him one ounce of a high dose liquid vitamin mixed in the rice bran. That is nearly all he can eat without colicking. Rice bran is contradictory for a feed for EMS horses but THIS horse seems to be doing fine and the vet is heavily involved in the care & keeping of this horse.

My sad part of this "recommendation" is that I have to drive 41 miles, one way, to buy Triple Crown. My own health has deteriorated enough that I just can't do that anymore.

Nutrena has come out with an addition in their Safe Choice line, called "Special Care". I have asked Tractor Supply to order in 100lbs for me to try.

I don't like that Nutrena doesn't list the ingredients on their bag and I really don't like that I am so limited in feed choices within my now-shortened driving distance. So I hope this Special Care does the trick for the three of my four that will be on it. Even though the Arab isn't an easykeeper anymore, I'm going to try the Special Care on him anyway and see how he does; if I have to add a little more rice bran, I will.

Hmm. I will look into what rice bran options we have that I could buy locally. I hate ordering things online and having to keep track of ordering in advance to make sure I never run out.. lol. Later tonight or tomorrow morning I am planning on putting up the charts of what's in each feed side by side to compare. :)
