need help with "grain" free diet!

So Sonador right now get's a scoop and 3/4 alfalfa pellet with an once of local grass balancer, 2 x's a day. With free choice costal and great quality pasture.

Sona used to get BOSS. She LOVED it. Well after reading about the omega 6 stuff I stoped feeding it. Every time I feed her she dumps the bucket looking for her BOSS! I plan on giving ground flax and maybe canola oil.

My question is....
IS there any thing else that I could give to add some flavor with out changing to much??? I feel bad for her. Do you think the flax and canola oil will help?

I wouldn't worry so much about adding something so much as I would trying to figure out a way to keep her from dumping it. Does she eat it eventually or does she just dump it and then leave it on the ground?

She does go back and eat it ASAP but she is looking for the BOSS first. I've even seen her violently dig in her bucket and then stomp, rear, buck, and throw a tantrum when it's not there some times. The only time she doesnt do it is if I soak her food. I don't have time to wait for it to soak 2x's a day though. It's to humid here to leave it to soak over night/mid day, trust me I tried. I cam back to fuzzy food.

She is sand cleared regularly so I'm not worried about sand. I'm working on getting her a mat. And I always feed her on the left over hay on the ground.

You might try something like these if you can find them cheaper (or make your own).

That would work in theory but she also picks her bucket up with her teeth so I think she would flip that too.

Since she eats it I guess I shouldnt be that worried about it. It is rather entertaining to watch.

Is there any way you could build her a trough? My boy likes to dump his bucket too, so I have a wooden trough he eats out of that he can't knock over because it's attached to the wall of his run-in. As far as her diet goes, it sounds good to me!

I used to have a horse who hated their supplements. Took a spray bottle and added a little gatorade or koolaid or some sort of flavor drink mix to it and water and would spray down their food with it to kind of change the flavor.

I barrowed one from a friend to see how she would do and she would use her face like a shovel.

Maybe she likes to eat the dirt??? She has 2 diffrent salt blocks so I see no need for it??

I too wouldn't worry about it. She'll get used to the lack of 'lollies'! My chooks actually did the same for a while after switching from a mix that had lots of sunflower seeds! Used to drive me mad, as they'd eat those & waste the rest! Now they don't get the treats, they ain't so fussy!

If she's wasting too much & dumps the bucket out of habit, a cheaper way of ensuring she doesn't is just to fill the base with concrete so it's too heavy for her to lift/kick over.

Just dump some water in it when you feed... you don't have to "soak" it just wet it good...I bring my feed that I soak in at night when I wake up I put the water in and it is ready in about ten minutes to feed...I use a ration balancer and hay pellets
