NSC List for feeds.

Heya,

I know a while back someone posted a list of feeds and their NSC contents, and I cannot for the life of me find it.

It should be a sticky!

Can anyone find this discussion??

That list is from 2008 and, while it's a great baseline, I'm sure much has changed since then.

Especially my post about switching to Purina WellSolve. I ended up only feeding half the bag and took the rest back because it was not doing good things to my horse.

At that point in time, I had discovered there was over 800 ppm of iron in the WellSolve line; the amount for a healthy horse is only around 276ppm

I had discovered that Manna Pro makes an equine pelleted rice bran and I have been using that, along with the vit/min supplement EquiPride ever since.

Peggy Sue hasn't been around for awhile; hopefully someone can take the list she took the time to make and update it

Stuff that we feed or makes up common horse feeds:

Alfalfa Cubes: 10.2% NSC
Alfalfa Pellets: 9.3% NSC
Barley: 61.7% NSC
Beet Pulp: 12.3% NSC
Corn: 73.3% NSC
Oats: 54.1% NSC
Rice Bran: 21.2% NSC
Soybean Hulls: 6.3% NSC
Soybean Meal: 16.2% NSC
Wheat Middlings: 32.0% NSC
Wheat Bran: 31.1% NSC

I'm not at all an organizer. Would be nice if it was in a single easy to find place. Fat horses, pet horses, old horses kind of takes in lots of horses...
